Ensemble-in-Residence at the Auditorio of Tenerife (Canary Islands) since 2013, Quantum Ensemble is a flexible and collaborative instrumental group founded by three Canary musicians with extensive and renowned international careers: David Ballesteros (violin), Cristo Barrios (clarinet) and Gustavo Diaz-Jerez (piano). The three musicians form the core unit of Quantum Ensemble.
The group has a modern conception of classical music performance, as more flexible and closer to the audience. Based on academic rigor and their love of repertoire, they try to bring music to a broader audience through the discovery of new works and a more open style staging. Its programs, always creative and puzzling, usually combine music with other artistic disciplines such as dance, free improvisation, poetry or visual art.
For these programs the group is expanded with collaborating musicians and renowned soloists, such as pianist Javier Negrin, violist Cecilia Bercovich, cellist Asier Polo and Angel Luis Quintana, flutist Júlia Gállego, guitarist Adam Levin, harpist Camille Levecque, baroque violinist Hiro Kurosaki, harpsichordist Alberto Martinez, percussionists Paco Diaz and Carlos Llácer, etc.
In Quantum Ensemble’s concerts there is always a direct dialogue with the audience to locate each work in context, through the experiences of the musicians themselves. In addition, in line with the social and human approach of the group, the synergies of these musicians are fully used to perform master classes and workshops at conservatories and other educational institutions, with special emphasis on the most disadvantaged groups.
